Pilates & Mental Health

Firstly let us say that there are many ways to improve your mental health. If you are worried about yourself or a friend, seek help from a doctor or health professional.

Pilates is fantastic for aiding your mental health, it’s potential is endless.

Breathing is one of the best things for calming the mind. It is also one of the 8 Principles of Pilates, as taught by Joseph Pilates and is an essential part of every Pilates class. Pilates engages the mind which can help with improving your memory & brain function. When you exercise you increase your body’s feel-good chemicals, endorphins, which gives a natural boost to how you are feeling. Pilates can also help you deal with stress, increasing your resilience to stress. There is so much research about the benefits of exercise for depression and anxiety. Pilates offers a sociable activity, one which distracts from negative thoughts and can be used as part of a larger self care system.

As you can see, Pilates can help your mental health. If you are suffering & struggling, consider giving Pilates a go.
